Biodiversity Strategy

Our Biodiversity Strategy has been developed in order to direct and manage Council's involvement in the identification, protection and enhancement of the indigenous biodiversity on the Coromandel.

The Biodiversity Strategy was adopted by Council in April 2008.

Biodiversity is considered, and carried out, by many departments of Council including: Communications, the District Plan, Economic Development (tourism), Policy, Parks and Reserves and Infrastructure.

Our vision relating to our biodiversity on the Peninsula:

The Coromandel Peninsula will grow in a way that embraces its spirit and natural beauty, by working with our communities to acknowledge diversity, nurture ecology and value our identity.

The Biodiversity Strategy is overdue for review. A pre-consultation survey will run from 18 December 2020 to 28 February 2021. This survey will enable the Council to understand the community's expectations in regard to Biodiversity and Council's role in it.  Take the survey here
